The journey continues...
You reach the mountain top, thinking that would be as far as you could climb. Instead, gravity releases you to float among the stars. You always thought space would be silent, but to your surprise it is not. You wonder what this sound is, and then you know. It is the harmonic of the universe welcoming you.

To your right, reflecting off an astroid, is a flickering image. It's a man. He's talking about what he believed helped him live through a terrible experience when others around him were dying every day. He says he never gave up hope. He knew eventually the ordeal would end, and he focused his mind forward to that beautiful day.

Watching him is a small female figure who wrote about her experience in a poignant diary. In her open, innocent voice, she chronicled what was happening around her. And despite the horrors she witnessed, she wrote, "I still believe, in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart."

Now another image catches your attention. It's a city. Something terrible happened there. You hear a female voice, but it does not lament its owner's misfortune or rail against her attackers. Instead it offers you her Haiku in which she says ever since the bomb took away her house, she has a much better view of the moon.

You shift your focus to a star above you and see the one person who taught the modern world about selfless humility. She is dressed in white. Many people have honored her. What was most extraordinary about her was how she loved the poor and sick, and even now I like to think she watches over them. Where many of us would cringe before even touching the people she helped, she lavished hugs and kisses on them, with no fear for herself of contagion, with no reaction at all to any odors or deformities. She worried about the focus on materialism in the United States.

She left us this bit of advice:

"People are often unreasonable and self-centered.
Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives.
Be kind anyway.

If you are honest, people may cheat you.
Be honest anyway.

If you find happiness, people may be jealous.
Be happy anyway.

The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough.
Give your best anyway.

For, you see, in the end, it is between you and God.
It never was between you and them anyway.

You hear something unexpected: laughter. You are relieved that the cosmos has a sense of humor. You move toward the sound and recognize a man whose gentle comedy and sweet nature are still bringing us many laughs and pleasant memories. More about him is here.

Laughing along with him is a little boy seated in a wheelchair. He writes poetry and believes his purpose in life is to help others understand and "live" peace. Rest in peace, Mattie.
